About Us

The Company

Studio Nefce exists to create soulful experiences that ethically advances our potential as humans.

Following our success as winners of the Young Innovators Awards and Fast Start, we’re ready to continue the next step in our journey. To help young people improve their focus skills and become mindful of their screen time by welcoming a UI/UX Designer to our purpose-driven team.

Our Values

Balance is key to contentment and perseverance.

Honesty so we’re transparent about our business and don’t lose touch with reality.

Community because we do right by our diverse audience and society.

The team

Our founder Adam is the studio lead, a self-taught problem solver with design and iOS programming skills. Kris is our game designer and board game wizard.

The Problems we're tackling

  • Inflated screen time
  • Attention economy
  • Polarised societies
  • Mental health
  • Entertainment diets
  • Endless distractions

Our unannounced but bright idea (that needs some ?):

A mobile app that rewards young people with Minecraft-like rewards for completing timed sessions away from distracting apps, allowing them to focus on their priorities.

Project goals

We won UK Government funding (Innovate UK) to develop our product with a short (two-month) project (target start date is 6th January 2025) that will:

  • Modernise the look and feel of our prototype
  • Design the early versions of our multiplayer and social features
  • Involve our audience in the design process to constantly test our assumptions
  • Start development of our iOS app with Apple’s Screen Time API functionality
  • Create the content our users will engage with as they progress through our experience

What we offer

  • A rare opportunity to create and shape a counterintuitive gameplay experience
  • Contribute to an interesting project with a clear purpose of helping young people feel in control of their time and attention
  • Flexible working (open to remote or hybrid model) and four-day work week
  • Influence our studio’s culture, processes and habits
  • Freedom to grow skills in areas that are of interest to you
  • Autonomy to manage your workload
  • Competitive compensation (£23-25k per annum pro-rata initially on a temporary contract with the possibility of a permanent role beyond the project)

Who are we looking for

We are looking for a talented and resourceful UI/UX designer to join our team (must be UK based or have a NI number). This person will take a lead role in crafting a fun user experience. The ideal candidate is ready to jump in and influence every aspect of the design process, from ideation, to wireframing, UX design and supporting with user testing, through to screen design, interaction design and product support.

The gig

  • Create and iterate on the player experience and ensuring players have a clear understanding of our game’s core loops and narrative
  • Identify UX issues by prototyping, designing and presenting user flows to both wireframe quality and high-fidelity standards
  • Design a high-fidelity and interactive prototype for the initial releases of our app
  • Collaborate with our artist and game designer to bring to life our vision
  • Involve our audience in the design process to constantly test our core assumptions and gather actionable insights
  • Shape the player journey to facilitate daily engagement and good retention
  • Generating and collating assets necessary to complete the UI to shipping standard
  • Supporting the creation and maintenance of our design system

Your skills

  • Experience creating UI/UX within the mobile tech or gaming industry

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid grasp of visual design and user interface design principles
  • Strong presentations skills and the ability to convey an idea or vision to non-visual or art stakeholders
