About the Bristol Associate Professor in Mechanics of Materials

The role

The School of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering is seeking a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Mechanics of Materials. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to drive forward our research and teaching agenda in mechanics of materials, with a specific focus on metallic systems.

You will be joining a collaborative and dynamic team within the solid mechanics research group, which is known for its industry-aligned research and contributions to solving real-world problems in materials performance. The School is part of a larger Faculty of Science and Engineering, renowned for its research excellence and commitment to addressing global challenges.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor, you will be responsible for leading internationally recognised research in mechanics of materials, particularly in areas such as high-temperature materials performance, fracture and fatigue mechanics, and the integrity of metallic components.

Your research will be expected to contribute to solving significant industrial challenges and align with the activities of the solid mechanics research group. You will also play a key role in teaching, developing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in materials engineering and structural performance. Additionally, you will supervise student projects, engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration within the Faculty, and contribute to the strategic direction of the School. Opportunities to take on leadership roles will also be available, allowing you to influence the future of the School’s academic and research activities.
